228 days to go

It’s not been the best. A minor op to remove some skin cancer on the top of my head has limited my ability to get into the gym. I can’t swim, run or doing anything hard for 3 weeks. Any significant rise in my blood pressure is unadvisable, as the blood vessels in the head are not the quickest to heal - it’s annoying. Annoying but there is a lesson in here somewhere for the middle aged wreck that is me. Any time I take a step forward, body screams for me to “slow down, stretch more, do more core!”.

I want to run, I want to swim, but I go to the gym and all I can do is stretch and do mobility exercises for my main muscle groups. Frustratingly, I know it will be good for me in the long run as I need to improve those elements of my training programme if I’m going to get over the finish line on my own two feet and not on a stretcher.

Only 6 days until I can swim again, so I’ll continue to be a grumpy landlubber until then.
